How to Adopt a Rescue Dog
AA Dog Rescue Adoption Process

Adopting a rescue dog is one of the most rewarding ways to welcome a new companion into your life. At AA Dog Rescue we have successfully rehomed over 11,800 dogs in 13 years across the UK and Spain. This guide explains the full adoption process, fees and what to expect when adopting one of our rescue dogs.

Every dog in our care receives veterinary treatment, vaccinations and careful assessment so we can match them with the right home.

Step 1 - Browse our dogs available for adoption

Browse the dogs currently available for adoption on our website. Each dog profile includes information about their personality, size, age and suitability for families, children or other pets.

Step 2 - Complete the Homing questionnaire and email us

If one of our dogs has captured your heart, contact the rescue to discuss the dog and ask any questions about temperament, lifestyle requirements or the adoption process.

Step 3 - Home Suitability Check

We carry out a home check to make sure the dog will be safe and happy in your environment. This includes discussing your household, garden, working hours and any existing pets.

Step 4 - Adoption Approval

Once the home check is approved and the match is confirmed, we will arrange the adoption and prepare the dog to come to you.

Step 5 - Adoption Donation

An adoption donation helps cover the cost of the vaccinations, microchipping, passport documentation, veterinary care and the welfare of the rescue dogs in our care.

Step 6 - Welcome Your Rescue Dog Home

Once everything is arranged your new dog will begin their new life with you.

We also pride ourselves on the quality of the backup, help and advice available to new adopters. When you adopt an AA dog, you very much become party of the family, with access to a vibrant Facebook community and a wealth of helpful information.

Ourselves and our behaviourist are also available to speak to at any time after adoption.

If you are interested in adopting a dog from AA Dog Rescue and there is a dog you like the look of and it suits you please complete our Dog Adoption Questionnaire below and return it by email to: homing@aadogrescue.org.uk

If you struggle with the form, email homing@aadogrescue.org.uk and we will reply with our questions.

Our Adoption Fees:

Our adoption fee is £480 for puppies and dogs travelling from Spain which includes the cost of adoption & transport. If an agreement to home a dog is made a £200 non-refundable deposit will be required with the remaining £280 payable two weeks before the transport leaves for the U.K. The adoption fee is non-refundable.

Our adoption fee is £395 for puppies and dogs in the UK. If an agreement to home a dog is made a £200 non-refundable deposit will be required to secure/reserve the dog with the remaining £195 payable on delivery/collection. The adoption fee is non-refundable.

Our adoption fee is €250 for puppies and dogs homed in Spain. If an agreement to home a dog is made a €100 non-refundable deposit will be required to secure/reserve the dog with the remaining €150 payable on delivery/collection. The adoption fee is non-refundable.

What is Included in the Adoption Fee

All dogs are spay/neutered (when old enough/prior to adoption unless there are health reasons that prevent it). They are microchipped, fully vaccinated, wormed & flea'd.

Every dog we place comes with lifetime rescue backup.

In the event that a dog has not been spayed/neutered prior to adoption, it is a condition of our contract that the dog will be neutered and we will require confirmation that this has been done by your vets. It is also a condition of our Adoption Contract that all puppies will be neutered when old enough.

If, for any reason, the adopter can no longer keep or look after the dog AADR has to be informed and the dog returned to AADR giving a minimum of four weeks notice. The Adoption Fee is non-refundable. We wish to make you aware that we do not have kennel facilities in the UK and whilst we will make every effort to find a fosterer, this is not always possible and the alternative will be that the dog returns to our kennels in Spain on the next available transport run. In addition, we ask for a donation to help with the costs of return. For example, it costs the rescue around £100 to transport a dog and as much as £150 if the dogs vaccinations/rabies are out of date.

Our phone lines are open everyday between 11am to 4pm.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does dog adoption take?

It can take as little as a few days to a few weeks depending on whether the dog is ready to go or needs preparation by way of vaccinations etc. Rest assured that we will be working hard behind the scenes to get the dog into a home and settled as quickly as possible.

Can I adopt a dog if I have young children?

We strongly believe that children should grow up with animals if we are to have a next generation of animal lovers. We just need to make sure that the match is right.

Can I adopt a dog if I live in a flat?

As long as we ensure that its the right dog and you can offer the dog what it needs we have no issue.

Can I adopt a dog if we have a cat/cats?

We have marked the dogs and puppies on our adoption pages that we believe with structured introductions can potentially live with a cat/cats.
